About Dr. Dan Stein Dr. Daniel S. Stein is a nationally renowned gynecologist, surgeon, educator, researcher and medical trailblazer. For the past two decades, his caring, commitment, and innovations have set a precedent in women's health care. Never one to succumb to the ever-evolving trend of depersonalized medicine, Dr. Stein continues to be a harbinger of a more humanized approach to healing. Dedicated to empowering women with the knowledge needed to make informed health decisions, and an approach to health care that treats the entire person and not just a disease, in 1980 he founded the landmark Stein Womens Center providing obstetrics, gynecology and internal medicine. The first of its kind to integrate traditional medicine, holistic medicine, and psychological counseling, it boldly redefined the landscape of possibilities for women's health. Dr. Stein was also the founder and President of The Laser Surgery Institute (1978) where he pioneered the use of video laser surgery, a revolutionary contribution to the field that gave patients and their immediate families the opportunity to view the laser surgery as it was being performed. He invented laser micro-surgery techniques to treat a variety of gynecological disorders ranging from cancer to infertility that provided radically less invasive surgical alternatives. He also founded The Florida Fertility Institute (1984) where he developed a technique to help childless women become pregnant through opening their blocked fallopian tubes using laparoscopic video laser surgery and simultaneously implanting their own fertilized eggs. In 1987 Dr. Stein spearheaded national awareness of the homeless dilemma by creating the first organized medical effort to help them. He founded Mission Physicians to give medical care to hundreds of men, women, and children living in "Tent City" in Los Angeles by bringing together over 35 volunteer doctors and nurses and obtaining contributions of drugs, medical supplies, and free laboratory tests from major drug manufacturers and hospital corporations. Lauded by Major Tom Bradley, he also was praised by Senator Pete Wilson who wrote, "In lives that are filled with pain and despair, it is the unselfish efforts of people like yourself who radiate sunlight and hope." Dr. Stein founded The Beverly Hills Women's Medical Center in California and was the senior consultant in setting up the only Women's Hospital in Cairo, Egypt. He served as president and CEO of the Women's Medical Centers of America, President of Sunlife OB/GYN Services, and as senior consultant and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida. He has published numerous articles in professional journals, books, magazines and newspapers, and was Executive Editor of Women's Fitness International Magazine. Dr. Stein is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Board of Laser Surgery. A founder of the Gynecologic Laser Society, he is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Medicine and holds memberships in more than twenty-five professional societies and organizations including the National Association of Physician Broadcasters.
